Group Reflection
Initially, the group felt that there was only one main factor that contributed to Professional Development (P.D). However, after the interview with the Centre Principal, it was found that there were more factors contributing to P.D; such as manpower, support from the school and work-life balance. It was understood that the factors were all related to one another. Thus, the interview made the findings clearer towards factors that influences P.D. There was a clearer direction for the flow of the project and it was easier to find sources that target the centre’s varying needs. The interview helped to identify the different challenges faced by the school leaders as well as teachers when they attend P.D. courses. The different struggles faced by the staff was also identified.
In addition, the group have learnt about detailed planning in the process of finding the centre’s needs, such as interview questions and collaborating with the Principal on centre visit. Having a detailed plan brings about a clear flow of idea and eliminates the worry of missing out important information. Through the interview, our group learnt to develop critical and spontaneous thinking skills to respond and ask further questions. It helped us understand and gain new information in-depth and discover new directions. This has helped the group to be exposed to more possibilities in exploring the topic on P.D. The group have also learnt that it is important to have proper organisational structure for smooth operations in the school to ensure sufficient manpower at all times and even workload and responsibilities.
